These redesigned Vietnamese banknotes honors both North and South Vietnam through regionally inspired illustrations and real images. Vietnamese banknotes are actually more favorable to North Vietnamese culture as Ho Chi Minh (a prime figure on Vietnamese currency) was president of North Vietnam. These new designs celebrate the distinct yet unified cultural identities that shape Vietnam’s history and heritage.

The South Vietnam banknote is inspired by the Mekong Delta’s vibrant fishing culture, the note features a fisherman’s boat, a woman crafting specialized fishing nets, a catfish illustration, and the water hyacinth flower—an aquatic plant found in Mekong that is used in traditional fishing net weaving.
The North Vietnam banknote is reflective of the agricultural richness of the Sapa region, the note includes images of rice terraces, a woman sorting rice, a rice plant, and a water buffalo—all essential parts of the Vietnamese farming life.
